How to Tell If a Promo Code Will Work Before You Use It

By CouponBuz Team Β·

A code that fails at checkout wastes your time and sometimes nudges you into paying full price. These five checks take under a minute.

1. Look for a recent check date

A code with no date is a guess. Prefer listings that say when they were last tested and drop anything older than a few weeks for fast-moving retailers.

2. Read the exclusions

Most percentage codes exclude sale items, gift cards or certain brands. If your basket is mostly excluded items, the code will not apply.

3. Check the minimum spend

A code that needs a high basket total may push you to buy more than you planned. Work out whether the saving is still worth it.

4. Confirm region and account rules

Many codes work only in one country or only for new customers. If you are shopping from the UK, a US-only code will be rejected.

5. Look at the renewal price

For subscriptions and hosting, the first-term discount is often the headline. Note what the service charges after that period before you enter payment details.

If a code still fails, clear the basket, re-enter it exactly as shown and make sure you are signed in to the right account.

CouponBuz may earn a commission when you use a link on this site to buy something. This never changes the price you pay.
